How Do You Set Up a Tent by Yourself?

Updated: Mar 29

Setting up a pop up canopy by yourself is very doable. If you install a tent with two people you can finish in a matter of less than 3 minutes. But, can you do it by yourself? Yes! As a matter of fact, here is a short video where one of our co-workers did it all by herself! It took her no more than 10 minutes. It is very simple and straightforward for pop up canopies.

Frame Tents (Pole Tents)

There are many tent varieties and sizes which definitely require a crew to install a tent. This mostly applies to large frame tents (pole tents) since they require assembly and can weigh more than one person can handle. The video below will give you a sense of how complex it can become, even with a relatively simple tent. Assembly for a structure tent is definitely a two man or more job. So, for pole tents, it is not recommended to set up a tent by yourself as its nearly impossible task and you could get seriously injured. Here are a few things we recommend for these larger tents.

  • Use a team of people for any frame tent installation.

  • Even smaller tent sizes can be a bit difficult to handle so always practice caution.

  • Hire a crew of tent installation professionals if you have no prior experience with a tent installation.

Inflatable Tent Structures

Inflatable tents are easier to handle than frame tents because they do not require assembly. That doesnt mean its easier to install though, because the volume these structures take up can be significantly larger than conventional tents. At the same time, they are lighter and even a small wind can turn the entire setup process into more work than it has to be. If you have an installation buddy, then it can be much easier. All you have to do is lay out the tent, install the blower system and turn it on. Once it is on, secure the attached tethers to the ground to prevent the tent from swaying or moving if a gust of wind comes through. We do not recommend you attempt an installation by yourself. Below is an installation video of one of our most popular inflatable tents where you can see what goes into it.
